Larkin was born on October 28, 1850, in Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Before entering Christian ministry, he trained as a mechanical engineer and worked as a draftsman. He later became a successful businessman. His technical background proved invaluable when he began illustrating biblical teachings, enabling him to create precise and visually engaging charts that made difficult theological subjects easier to grasp. In his late thirties, after experiencing a deep spiritual commitment to the Christian faith, he entered the ministry and was ordained as a Baptist pastor.

Although Larkin faithfully served local congregations, he became best known through his teaching and writing rather than through public preaching. His engineering skills combined with his passion for Scripture produced a distinctive style of biblical instruction. His most celebrated work, Dispensational Truth (1918), featured hundreds of carefully designed illustrations, timelines, and charts that explained God's plan of redemption, the dispensations, prophetic events, and the structure of the Bible. Other important works, including Rightly Dividing the Word, The Book of Daniel, and The Book of Revelation, further explored biblical prophecy with remarkable clarity and organization.

Larkin emphasized careful study of the Scriptures and encouraged readers to approach the Bible as a unified revelation of God's purposes throughout history. His teachings became especially influential among evangelical Christians who embraced dispensational theology. While some of his prophetic interpretations have been debated by scholars from different theological traditions, his commitment to systematic Bible study and his innovative teaching methods have earned enduring respect.

Clarence Larkin passed away in 1924, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of biblical scholarship and Christian education. His illustrated books remain in print more than a century later, continuing to guide pastors, teachers, students, and readers interested in understanding the Bible's prophetic message.
